ATTORNEY SPOTLIGHT: Cody Elyse Brookhouser-Sisney

Cody Elyse Brookhouser-Sisney has recently been selected as the Chair of McGrath North’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. In addition, Cody was selected as a shareholder of the firm, effective January 1, 2022.

Cody’s Work

Cody focuses her litigation practice on labor and employment law. She advises companies and businesses of all sizes on a broad spectrum of labor and employment issues, including employee handbooks, employment policies and procedures, hiring/firing decisions, discipline issues, wage and hour issues and compliance with local, state and federal laws. For the last two years, her practice has expanded to assist employers in navigating and managing the workforce during COVID-19. She is responsive and pragmatic, and is always focused on helping clients understand their legal rights and responsibilities while guiding them through all challenges that arise in the workplace.

She also advocates for clients in federal and state court as well as administrative proceedings in a wide range of labor and employment matters, including employment litigation, EEOC and DOL investigations, ALJ hearings, collective bargaining, contract negotiations, grievance arbitration, and unfair labor practice complaints.

Cody earned her Juris Doctor, with High Distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law. After law school, she served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Chief Justice Patience Drake Roggensack of the Wisconsin Supreme Court during the 2015-2016 term.

Having received numerous academic honors at both the University of Arkansas and University of Iowa College of Law, Cody has continued to build her career with the same level of excellence. She was recently listed in Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch for her work in Employee Benefits Law and Litigation-Labor and Employment. Cody is also a frequent speaker and contributing writer on critical labor and employment topics.

Cody is excited to continue the Firm’s strong leadership in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as its new Chair. “Being a part of the DEI Committee is a real honor for me because I have the ability to influence the Firm’s culture through education and awareness around issues that have historically been overlooked within the legal profession,” Cody shared. “As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to be my full and authentic self at McGrath North, and I want to make sure that all of our attorneys, staff, law students and clients feel that they are valued for their differences and included in the same way. These differences allow us to provide our highest excellence in service to our clients by capitalizing on the full range of our diverse experiences and viewpoints.”

Outside the Firm

Cody is deeply committed to bettering her community, and believes her participation in Leadership Omaha Class 43, and as a LeadDIVERSITY Advocate for 2021-2022, will help her contribute in positive ways. Cody also served on the Board of Heartland Pride for several years and continues as a huge supporter of Omaha’s Pride Parade and Festival. In addition to all of her leadership work, Cody loves spending time with her family, including her growing toddler. She and her spouse are active adventurers, always looking to carve out time for fun travel, both within the states and internationally.
