ATTORNEY SPOTLIGHT: Brian T. McKernan

Brian T. McKernan was selected to join the Board of Directors of McGrath North effective January 1, 2022. In addition to joining the Board of Directors, Brian will also continue to serve as Co-Chair of the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group that includes over twenty lawyers.

Brian’s Work

Brian has over 20 years of experience resolving a broad variety of complex business, commercial and intellectual property disputes at both the trial and appellate court levels. In the last year alone, Brian has taken three trials to jury and argued in front of the Nebraska Supreme Court on three separate occasions. Brian’s litigation experience includes construction, franchise, and toxic tort litigation. In addition to his active litigation practice, Brian’s deep litigation experience has led to him serving as national coordinating counsel for various clients responsible for litigation matters throughout the country. Brian also has handled a variety of arbitration disputes throughout the country.

Being faced with a dispute is not a position that most individuals and business owners enjoy. Brian’s experience, planning and execution allows him to quickly get a handle on the nature of the dispute, verify the scope of the dispute, and most importantly provide various options to guide the client to resolutions consistent with their business or personal goals.

Brian received both his undergraduate and law degrees from Creighton University with honors. His honors have continued based on his successful litigation career, and he has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America for Commercial Litigation and Copyright Law, Great Plains Super Lawyers for Business Litigation, and Intellectual Property Litigation, and most recently, Best Lawyers in America named Brian “Omaha Lawyer of the Year” for Copyright Law.

As to his new role on the firm’s Board of Directors, Brian stated: “Managing a law firm of almost 70 professionals in the current environment is very challenging, and we are very fortunate to have our team of board members and practice group leaders, all with divergent perspectives, to guide us to even greater levels of success and effectiveness for our clients. I look forward to not only continuing but building upon the high standards of excellence established by past and current colleagues that are not only law partners, but friends.”

Outside the Firm

Along with his wife who is a teacher, Brian juggles many activities to keep up with their four active sons. He loves coaching a variety of sports and participating in morning CrossFit workouts with his wife. Brian is an avid supporter of his alma mater Creighton and enjoys slipping in a quick round of golf when there is a bit of daylight in their activity-packed schedules.
